Dear Editor
It was exciting to
read about the colombian scientist Manuel Elkin Patarroyo. He is an immunologist doctor, graduated from the Universidad
Nacional . It seems to me that he is a
great character , because he discovered the vaccine to malaria disease: this is
a very dangerous disease because Malaria is the most widespread systemic parasitic disease worldwide and, causes about 1 million deaths a year, mostly children. It is a common disease in tropicals zones, where a lot of people live. Patarroyo and his team, worked hard looking for a synthetic vaccine, altough the vaccine has been very questioned in other countries, in South America it has been effective. Patarroyo donated his invention to World Health Organization and, he has won prizes and awards for this all over the world. In my opinion the world needs more scientists with research spirit and interested in helping low resources people.
